Child Safety Standards
Child Safe Standards provide a framework for organisations to improve their practices and better promote and protect the rights, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people, including by increasing the likelihood that children and young people both feel safe and are safe.
The Standards seek to bring together the conditions that make children and young people feel safe while also establishing a range of safeguards. The focus on rights, safety, and wellbeing reflects our core societal values and expectations.
When organisations take deliberate actions to be child safe, child friendly, and child aware, children and young people are more likely to feel valued, and abuse is better prevented, responded to, and reported.
When children and young people feel valued, know their rights, and are empowered to communicate their views, they learn to trust their own judgment and make good choices, even when adults are not there to protect them. They are also more likely to trust that when they raise concerns, these concerns will be taken seriously and acted on.
Being a child safe organisation will help us create a world where children and young people can both be safe and feel safe.
All staff and volunteers providing services for children and young people understand their role in helping their organisation put the Standards into action. At our organisation we recognise the importance of maintaining up to date working with vulnerable people's checks. As teachers, we also have a wealth of experience in implementing safety standards that help to protect and value all young people.
The standards that we follow at silent sea studios are derived from the ACT child saf standards. These standards help us to improve our systems and processes that enable us to identify and reduce risks of harm to children and young people.
The ten Child Safe Standards are:

Worksafe practices
Silent sea studios is fully insured in the case of accidents. We take work safety seriously and acknowledge the risks involved in operating a home studio. We ensure our studio has adequate ventilation and employ wet wiping of all dusty surfaces. Our kiln is situated externally to the studio and is adequately ventilated. Further to this, the kiln operates outside of studio hours to reduce the exposure of any participants to fumes generated by firing and glazing.
