Lifelong friends, Anna and Rosalie have always shared a deep love of making, and have both spent many years as educators in primary and secondary school settings. Their individual practices—ceramics and textiles—evolved along different paths, yet their creative journeys continually brought them back to one another. United by a passion for slow craft, natural materials, and detailed, process-driven work, they decided to combine their skills and establish a home studio together. Their shared space is a place of collaboration, conversation, and creativity, where they support each other’s practices while building a welcoming environment for workshops, exhibitions, and community connection.
Anna’s artistic practice originated in printmaking, a foundation that now informs the way she treats surface texture in her ceramic work. She uses stippling as her primary technique, building delicate, detailed patterns across her classically inspired, hand-built vessels. Anna likens these textured surfaces to the intricate, meandering marks created by moth larvae as they burrow through the bark of scribbly gum trees. Anna also creates functional pottery; plates, bowls and mugs, as well as ceramic jewellery that she sells at local markets across Canberra.
Rosalie Rose is a textile artist currently living in Canberra, Australia. Her creative life prioritises the processes of slow stitching, botanical dyeing and weaving. Rosalie holds workshops for children and adults and has both past and forthcoming solo exhibitions of her slow stitched pieces. When working independently, Rosalie enters a space where repetition and mark making provides a soothing state. The artworks she creates are often meeting of her relationship with the earth and an honouring of something ancient. Rosalie endeavors to restore beauty in its natural form using natural fibers, hand stitched fabric off-cuts, botanical dyes, rocks, shells and shapes that offer the reminder that we are of this earth. The rhythm and repetition of slow stitch offers a strength that is only found in patience and a pace that defies the instant gratification of this modern life.
